SEASON — Fall (October, Y1)
The approach of fall means the coming of winter. Snow begins to fall more frequently, and there is usually a thin layer of ice crusting over the world. The trees grow dormant, and FrostBound's inhabitants prepare for the harshest time of the year. population CANIDAE

Once the lands begin to level out, the Boreal Heights roll out as far as the eye can see. As the name suggests, the forest consists mainly of Boreal trees which do not shed their leaves in fall. The effect is a somewhat spooky, dense, icy forest that muffles the footsteps. Several species of prey can be found among the boughs, but one could just as easily mistake the shadows moving in the forest as something ghoulish. |
The Western quarter of FrostBound is dominated by the Deep Arctic. The flat plains of snow and ice are for the most part open to the elements with sparse tree cover to the north and south. There are parts of the Deep Arctic that are treacherous, so tread carefully over this frozen wasteland. |
The Deep Arctic gives way in the South to a mighty forest of pine, cedar, fir and spruce. The coniferous forest is also home to a wide variety of plants that thrive in shady areas. In winter, Rime forest creates natural shelter among its needled branches. This band of forest carpets the mighty mountains to the east all the way westward up the Jarl River to Bitterwind Estuary. |
South of the fork created by the River Jarl are the Tar-Lands. As the name suggests, the tarry ground that makes up these lands is dangerous and very little grows here, with the chance of geysers erupting high. Pockets of tar act as traps for unsuspecting prey and could make an easy meal, but the predator is just as susceptible to the sticky, clinging substance. |
Kept more temperate than the majority of the mountain slopes, Greenwood’s forest floor rarely sees snow. The evergreen trees keep their healthy green colour all year round, and once you get deep enough into the treeline it doesn’t seem as bitterly cold as it does outside. The secret is thermal veins running deep under the ground, and it isn’t uncommon to come across a warm, bubbling stream, burst free from a rock or crack in the earth. |
Before the frost bound the land, the Eastern most edges of the land look as though they were once a swamp. The increased water available in this area has resulted in a series of giant ice spires that seem to grow from the ground. Otherwise, the land is relatively flat and somewhat warmer overall than the rest of FrostBound. |
The North East quarter is home to the Great Tundra - a forested expanse of hills and open plains where tough grassland grows. In warmer months, the high ground melts just enough to attract many grazing species. |
North East of the Great Tundra, landmass stops and the Ice takes over. The Frozen Sea, so named because the sheet ice formed on top is so thick that it is an almost permanently solid structure, is perfect seal hunting grounds. The breathing holes created in the ice do little to destabilize it and the ice is almost considered safe to walk on. |
Overlooked by the cliffs on the western face of the land, Avalanche Bay is a relatively shallow expanse of water beneath the ice that covers it. The Jarl River empties out into the bay, keeping the area close to the land relatively free of ice and a somewhat chilly place to cross the Bay. |
From its humble origins in the Frigid Springs comes the mighty Jarl River, a large body of water that divides the land in many directions. With a distinct branch that curves around the Tar-Lands in an eastern direction and into the forested lands of the west, the Jarl River is not a force to be reckoned with. It is possible to swim across sections of the River, but be warned - it is not to be underestimated. |
Dominating the center of FrostBound, Highmountain and the numerous peaks surrounding it are an impressive sight to behold. The range is visible from almost anywhere in the lands and provides an ideal point of reference to orientate travelers. The mountains themselves are not easy to traverse and footing can be dangerous if one strays too far from the mountain passes. |
South of Jarl River, Frostbite Plateau stands tall over the Tar-Lands that are further south. The Plateau itself is home to many peaks and cliffs, as well as a large swathe of forest. Roaring Pass and the ice bridge are the only ways up onto the Plateau. |
West of Windbreak is the great inland Glacier Lake, a substantial body of water that only partially freezers in the winter months, making crossing the water precarious but possible. The waters are cold and clear and can make for good fishing grounds, when the lake is not shrouded in fog. There is a spiritual aura about the lake, especially towards the center. |
The northern mountains create a small pocket of flat ground where tangled woodland has grown. The Wilds are not easy to travel through, with densely packed trees and bramble bushes growing among the boughs, but it is the most direct route through the north mountains. |
